The Set Design: The entire stage action takes place inside the Winfield's Home. The rows of windows surrounding the stage recall the architecture of the typical large building in the beeheves-like buildup area of he streets of St. Louis. In the middle of the stafe, a platform on two levels hold few symbolic objects. Three cages, placed at different heights and distances from the central core create a triangle of emotional tension, mental places where the main charachters hide when seeking shelter from life squalls
La Scenografia: L'intera azione scenica si svolge all'interno della casa degli Winfield. Le file di finestre che circondano il palco ci ricordano che siamo all'interno di un grosso edificio,uno di quei tanti agglomerati a forma di alveare che popolano le vie di St. Louis. Al centro della scena una pedana su due livelli ospita pochi oggetti simbolici. Tre gabbie, poste ad altezze e distanze diverse dal nucleo centrale,creano un triangolo di tensione emotiva. Queste sono dei luoghi mentali in cui i protagonisti si nascondono,sono il riparo che ciascuno crea per difendersi dalla tempesta della vita.
The goal of the project is, to promote opera to a larger and younger audience. My idea is to organize an event, such as a cocktail party, during which participants can enjoy the music of the greatest composers of Opera. It is to be noted that, originally, operas were really social events where drinking, eating and chatting during the exibition was absolutely normal.
The location: The exhibition is thought to be set in a former industrial area (Hanger Bicocca, Milan), in one of the nave of a hangar. Given the particular location, the challenge was to find a way to harmonize the scenery with the industrial architecture surrounding it.
The Set design: This layout has been designed for the Rossini's Opera "La Cenerentola". The space is bounded laterally by a seris of stages leading the actors to a platform placed behind the orchestra. Given the particular location, I decided to use plexiglass sheets as main scenography material; this material well suites the industrial surroundings and has a special way of conducting light, which is reflected over sharp edges such engraving. On the plexiglass sheets were engraved different environments of the ancient palace where the story take place. The orchestra is located on an elevated semicircular structure which blends in with the structure of the bar.
Essendo quella dell'immigrazione una questione molto attuale, ho voluto che le ultime proiezioni fossero le immagini di uno dei tanti naufragi che si susseguono sulle coste italiane di Lampedusa.
L'opera è ambientata negli anni '50 a Red Hook, Brooklyn.Eddie Carbone è un'italoamericano che lavora al porto come scaricatore merci. Vive con la moglie e la nipote in una casa umile; l'equilibrio della famiglia viene spezzato dall'arrivo di due lontani parenti, giunti clandestinamente in America, che Eddie decide di ospitare.Il forte legame che unisce Eddie alla nipote si trasformerà presto in una gelosia morbosa che porterà all'epilogo tragico di questa storia.
L'allestimento occupa una delle navate dell'Hangar. Lo spazio è delimitato lateralmente da una serie di palchetti che conducono gli attori alla pedana posta dietro l'orchesta.
Sulle lastre di plexiglass sono stati incisi elementi che richiamano l'architettura dell'epoca; ogni palchetto infatti rappresenta un diverso ambiente della casa.L'orchestra occupa una struttura semicircolare soprelevata che trova il suo completamento con quella del bancone del piano bar.

The Play is set in the 50s in Red Hook, Brooklyn.Eddie Carbone is an italoamerican working as a stevedore at the port. He lives with his wife and nephew in an humble home; the balance of the family is broken by the arrival of two distant kins, who have arrived illegally in America and that Eddie decides to host. The strong bond that joins Eddie to his nephew will soon turn into a morbid jealousy that will bring to the tragic epilogue of the story.
The set: An old wooden pier hold the few elements that make up the house of our protagonists. The pier and the cardboard boxes that surround refer to the work of Eddie at the port. The floor is reflective to simulate the reflection of the water. On The boxes are projected original images of the landings of Italians in America. To the left of the stage is a desk study of the lawyer Alfieri, the narrator.This is a reproduction of the registration counters who flocked the immigration office in New York after World War II, when thousand of Italians left the peninsula in search of fortune.
Since immigration is a current problem, I wanted the latest projections were pictures of one of the many shipwrecks that are followed on the Italian coast of Lampedusa.

La scenografia:Un vecchio pontile di legno ospita i pochi elementi di cui è composta la dimora dei nostri protagonisti. Il pontile e le scatole di cartone che lo delimitano rimandano al lavoro di Eddie al porto. Il pavimento su cui poggiano le assi di legno, è riflettente così da simulare il riverbero dell'acqua. Sulle scatole vengono proiettate le immagine originali degli sbarchi di Italiani in America nel secondo dopo guerra. A sinistra del proscenio una scrivania rappresenta lo studio dell'avvocato Alfieri, voce narrante.
Questa è una riproduzione dei banchi di registrazione che affollavano l'ufficio immigrazione newyorkese, quando migliaglia di italiani lasciarono la penisola in cerca di fortuna.

A project to promote the Opera

Questo progetto nasce con l'intento di promuovere l'Opera lirica ad un pubblico più vasto, per esempio con un'aperitivo durante il quale i partecipanti possano godere della musica dei più grandi compositori d'Opera.
La scenografia: questo allestimento è stato pensato per l'Opera rossiniana "La Cenerentola" presso l'ex area industriale Hangar Bicocca. Data la location particolare ho pensato ad un modo per ridurre al minimo l'impatto fra la scenografia e l'architettura industriale dell'Hangar.
Le caratteristiche del Plexiglass si prestano alle mie esigenze: La trasparenza assicura un minor impatto con l'ambiente circostante, mentre la sua particolare conduzione della luce,che ne rende gli spigoli luminescenti, risalterebbe immersa nel nero che predomina l'Hangar.
